The EDB is simple to use, free of charge and let you protect your goods and services in Italy and European Union.
Let’s do a simple example. I’m a Chinese company holding an Italian registered trademark and exporting my mobile phones in Italy. My products are beginning to be known, and there is the concrete risk that a competitor use an identical or similar trademark to sells its mobile phones, causing serious damages to my business.
How useful would be a custom control service of my trademarks in all European customs?
How much would we be willing to pay for such an useful service?
Well, the good news is that this service is already in force and that, above all, it is completely free!
EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) has recently introduced the Enforcement Database (EDB), a tool that allows European customs authorities to check the import and export of counterfeit products, providing a valuable help to the owners of registered trademarks, with effect in the territories of the European Union.
The database is accessible to local customs and police forces in order to obtain information on imported and exported products, and to compare them with the TMs already registered with effect in the EU countries.

EDB is integrated with the European Union law enforcement agency, Europol, and the European anti-fraud office, OLAF.
Signing up to EDB is free for holders of Italian and European registered trademarks.
